Voice of Citizen Survey 2022: A Snapshot of Gurgaon’s Citizen Concerns and Aspirations

In December 2022, the Voice of Citizen Survey was conducted to gather firsthand insights from Gurgaon residents about pressing issues in their daily lives. With 598 responses collected from colonies across the city, this survey captures citizens’ concerns, the strengths of their communities, and their aspirations for Gurgaon’s future. It aims to serve as a guiding document for policymakers, civic bodies, and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs).

Purpose and Scope

Gurgaon’s rapid urbanization has brought unique challenges, from infrastructure strain to public service limitations. The survey provided residents a platform to evaluate critical services and voice their satisfaction levels regarding civic services, infrastructure, and quality of life.

Purpose and Scope

Key Findings

  1. Administration Satisfaction
Many respondents expressed dissatisfaction with the responsiveness and transparency of local administration. While some areas with active RWA collaboration reported positive interactions, many felt that local grievances, particularly regarding infrastructure, remained unresolved.
  2. Infrastructure and Public Utilities
Infrastructure issues emerged as a top concern, with residents dissatisfied over road conditions, drainage, and water pipelines. Gurgaon’s infrastructure hasn’t kept pace with its growth, highlighting a need for significant investments to meet rising demands.
  3. Waste Management
Residents pointed to irregular garbage collection and inadequate waste disposal systems, with calls for better waste segregation and sustainable disposal practices. Improved monitoring and stricter enforcement were frequently recommended.
  4. Safety and Security
Security concerns included insufficient street lighting, lack of police presence, and unmonitored access in gated communities. Many residents called for stronger community policing and collaboration between RWAs and law enforcement.
  5. Education and Health Services
While Gurgaon hosts top-tier institutions, there’s a gap in affordable access for middle- and lower-income families. Calls for enhancing public schools and hospitals reflected a desire for equitable access to essential services.
  6. Public Transport and Mobility
Frustration over inadequate public transport was high, particularly in outer colonies. Residents demanded better connectivity, more bus services, expanded metro coverage, and solutions to traffic congestion.

Conclusion and Way Forward

The Voice of Citizen Survey offers a roadmap to addressing Gurgaon’s critical issues through collaboration between residents, RWAs, and government bodies. By prioritizing infrastructure, waste management, and public safety, and adopting a citizen-centric governance model, Gurgaon can strive towards becoming a sustainable and livable model city. This survey emphasizes that Gurgaon’s citizens are ready to actively participate in shaping a better future for their city.
